While the Russian Fed Cup team gets ready to face Argentina this weekend, the Russian player Elena Vesnina has very kindly accepted to answer some questions to get back on the beginning of her season, her amazing experience during Sochi Olympic Games, and her first Grand Slam title won last year at Roland Garros.
First of all, how do you judge the first part of your season ?
Beginning of the year was not easy for me, because of my Achilles injury I almost skip my preseason workout and that’s why I was not ready to compete on high level. Just now I finally started finding my physical conditions and feeling much better.
How amazing it was to be an Olympic torchbearer and to be in Sochi to attend such a big event as Winter Olympic Games ?
It was an amazing experience for me, I was very exciting to be one of the Torch bearers. There are huge changes for my home city, now we have a lots of new roads in Sochi, new airport, beautiful stadiums, we are going to play Fed Cup there 😀
What are your expectations for the upcoming clay season ?
Hopefully it will be a good clay season for me 🙂
After several finals in doubles and mixed you finally won your 1st Grand Slam title in Paris last year…. One year later, what’s your feeling about this achievement ?
It was a special win for me and Katia. I was waiting for this title for a long time. In my life nothing is easy and I have to really deserve every title I have.
And to finish, If you weren’t a tennis player, what would you be doing now ?
I would definitely be vet 😀 I love animals.
